Film Students Trip to the BFI Film Library

“In a good bookroom you feel in some mysterious way that you are absorbing the wisdom contained in all the books through your skin, without even opening them.” – Mark Twain

What does it mean to talk about independent and mainstream? How has digital technology impacted on the film industry? Why do Hollywood distributors control the market? A study of the film industry is a requirement of all Film Studies specifications and our head of Film and Media studies will be taking Collingham A-Level Film students on a trip to the BFI Film Library this week.

In the library at BFI, students can access a huge collection of books, journals and digitised material about the world of film, television and the moving image. The library collection spans the history of cinema. Whilst its priority is comprehensive coverage of the moving image in Britain, the collection is international in scope and it should prove to be an incredible learning opportunity for our students.

Ski Trip to Mondolè

Some of our students and tutors at Collingham leave for a ski trip to Italy this week. The trip is to Mondolè, which is the largest ski area in the province of Cuneo. Students will have the opportunity to practise and learn skiing, and build on important extra-curricular skills in the process. Ski trips are beneficial for students for a range of reasons from inspiring students to experience the outdoors and get active, to learning new skills, improving confidence and sharing success. We hope that our students enjoy their trip to Italy, and find it an enriching and valuable experience.

Crime Fiction Lecture Day

Literature enthusiasts at Collingham will be attending a Crime Fiction Lecture Day on Monday. The day will cover different aspects of crime and detection fiction including the rise of crime fiction and an in depth examination of crime in the 19th century, 20th century and 21st century.

The ideas of justice and retribution, as well as victims and perpetrators will be examined in a programme which aims to enhance the studies and further inspire attendees. We hope this day will complement the excellent individualised learning that we offer here at Collingham, and offer the opportunity to further encourage reflection and intensive academic engagement.

For those looking to intensively study and revise for English Literature or other courses over the Easter break, please see our Easter Revision page.
