Meet our Teaching Staff

Main page content (1 column)

All our tutors are graduates in their subject, many with postgraduate degrees and with teaching qualifications. Some of our tutors are also examiners and all keep fully up to date with syllabus developments. They are enthusiastic, committed, supportive and approachable, and students are encouraged to feel free to consult them outside lesson times.

The Principal and Director of Studies can also be seen at any time.

Visitors

Stephen Baldock MA was High Master of St Paul’s School in South West London for over a decade (1992-2004), a school at which he spent 39 years, both as a pupil and teacher. Stephen’s experience in education is invaluable, particularly his understanding of the importance of developing and preserving a unique ethos. From time to time, Stephen can be found playing the organ for his parish church. He is married to Janet, a former GP; they have four married children and ten grandchildren.

Joanna Grant Peterkin BA PGCE has over 50 years of experience in education and is a former Headmistress of St George’s School, Ascot. Joanna’s emphasis on “activities” helps to enrich the student experience at Collingham. Joanna has also recently been made Chairperson of the Moray Badge Platinum Jubilee project to help primary and secondary age pupils who have been affected by the Covid lockdown. This project aims to encourage them to participate in and enjoy outdoor activities and to develop their own strengths rather than competing against others. Her father, Sir Brian Young, was once head of Charterhouse and Director General of the Independent Broadcasting Authority, and her husband, Peter, is a Major General.

Gillie Green MSc is a former joint Principal of Collingham College and understands our mission. Her recognition that student health & well-being underpins much of what we do supports us in providing individualised pastoral care for every student. Her expertise helps us not only to ensure that students do not feel ‘typecast’ but also to preserve a learning environment in which institutional pressures are lifted. After retiring from Collingham, Gillie has gone on to work with the British Consultancy Charitable Trust, which sends senior professional volunteer advisers to SME’s and non-profits in developing economies.

Professor the Lord McColl of Dulwich CBE FKC is a British surgeon, professor, politician and Conservative member of the House of Lords.  He was Parliamentary Private Secretary to Prime Minister John Major and shadow Minister for Health under William Hague. He was made a life peer in 1989 for his work for disabled people.

Philippa Petrow BA (Hons) Camb is a former European Head for Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences Practice. As Collingham College increases its focus on STEM subjects, the knowledge that Philippa brings as a Visitor is indispensable. Philippa is well placed to help the College in providing a framework which equips students with the aptitude and practical skills necessary as they move forwards and into the workplace.

Tim Haynes BA taught History at St Paul’s, becoming Surmaster in 1992. He then went on to be Headmaster of Monmouth school (1995-2005) and then Tonbridge school (2005-2018). He is a member of the Skinners Company and chairs their Education Committee.
