Electus Programme

The Electus Programme at Collingham Kensington is our specialist academic extension track for ambitious and intellectually curious sixth form students. Designed to support high-achieving learners, Electus offers enrichment beyond the A Level syllabus and tailored preparation for the most competitive university courses, including Oxbridge, Medicine, Law, and Russell Group institutions.

Electus students are challenged to think independently, explore widely, and communicate with clarity and confidence—both in and beyond the classroom.

Who is Electus for?

The Electus Programme is open to students who demonstrate:

> Strong academic potential and motivation

> An interest in stretching themselves beyond A Level content

> A desire to apply to competitive degree courses

Entry is based on interview and academic profile. Some students are invited to join at enrolment; others may be recommended after joining the main A Level programme.

What Does the Programme Include?

1. Academic Extension Seminars

Weekly sessions where students explore subjects in depth, examine interdisciplinary questions, and engage in critical discussion. Recent topics have included ethics in AI, global constitutionalism, and the philosophy of science.

2. Super-Curricular DevelopmentStudents are guided in reading and research beyond their subjects, building portfolios of interest that enhance university applications and personal statements.

3. The Collingham Dissertation

During the summer vacation following Year 12, Electus students undertake a self-directed research project on a subject of their choice. Guided by a specialist tutor, they produce a Collingham Dissertation, fostering independent thought, academic writing, and a deep sense of personal achievement. This project also supports UCAS applications, especially for Oxbridge.

4. Presentation and Public Speaking

Each student presents their dissertation findings to their Electus peers early in Year 13, helping to build public speaking skills and confidence in articulating complex ideas.

5. Cultural & Academic Enrichment Activities

Electus students take part in a range of intellectually stimulating events and outings, including:

  • Marcus du Sautoy Lecture at the Royal Institution
  • Lecture on Refugees and Humanitarianism at UCL
  • RSC production of King Lear at the Barbican
  • “Bedlam: The Asylum and Beyond” exhibition at the Wellcome Collection
  • Trip to Victoria Miro Gallery in Mayfair
  • An Evening with Derren Brown at New College of the Humanities

These experiences expand cultural awareness and reinforce cross-curricular thinking.

A Distinctive Learning Environment

Electus students benefit from the same small class sizes, close tutorial support, and personal attention that defines all teaching at Collingham Kensington. What sets Electus apart is the depth of challenge, the pace of discussion, and the shared commitment to excellence.

The programme is intellectually stimulating, personally enriching, and closely aligned with the demands of top-tier universities.

How to Join

The Electus Programme runs alongside our main A Level curriculum and is included within standard tuition for eligible students.

To be considered for Electus, students should indicate their interest during the admissions process, or speak with their personal tutor once enrolled. Selection is based on academic performance, interview, and tutor recommendation.

Electus is where ambition meets opportunity.

It prepares students not just for university entry, but for the kind of thinking, learning and communicating that defines academic success.
