FAQs
Admissions & Entry
What year groups does Collingham teach?
We offer tuition from Year 9 through to A level, including GCSEs and one- or two-year A level courses. We also support retakes and provide bespoke tuition where needed.
Do you have entrance requirements?
We’re a non-selective college, but we do assess each applicant to ensure Collingham is the right fit. We consider previous school reports, predicted grades, and an interview with the Principal or a senior tutor.
Can students join mid-year?
Yes. Depending on subject availability and timetabling, students can join partway through the academic year. We’ll work closely with each applicant to assess feasibility and ensure a smooth transition.
Teaching & Class Sizes
How big are your classes?
The average class size is five students. A level groups are capped at eight, and GCSE groups at nine. This allows for personalised teaching, high levels of participation, and rapid academic progress.
Do you offer one-to-one tuition?
Yes. We offer individual tuition either as part of a full programme or to supplement group classes where additional support is needed.
What subjects do you offer?
We offer a wide range of GCSE and A level subjects. If a particular subject isn’t listed, we may still be able to arrange tuition—just ask.
Exams & Results
How do you prepare students for exams?
Exam technique is a key focus at Collingham. Students sit exams twice a term, with full mocks at the end of the Spring Term. As final exams approach, practice becomes more frequent and targeted.
What are your exam results like?
We are proud of our students’ achievements, many of whom go on to top universities in the UK and abroad. Our small class sizes and individualised approach lead to strong outcomes year after year.
Do you support university applications?
Absolutely. Our UCAS support is comprehensive and personal. Tutors provide tailored advice, feedback on personal statements, and guidance on course choices and interview preparation.
Pastoral Care & Support
Will my child have a personal tutor?
Yes. Every student is assigned a personal tutor who oversees their academic progress and personal wellbeing. Tutors act as mentors and points of contact for both students and parents.
What kind of additional support is available?
We offer Study Skills sessions for all students. We also have a dyslexia specialist and EFL tutors for international students. For those needing extra personal support, we can recommend trusted counselling services.
How do you communicate with parents?
We send reports twice a term and host regular Parents’ Evenings. We also welcome contact at any time—parents can schedule meetings to discuss progress whenever needed.
