German as a foreign language is increasingly valued by employers, with Germany being the biggest economy in Europe by a long way.
As yet we seem to be teaching it less and less at school in the UK. The GCSE course is an introduction to the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing and although it is often taught over a number of years up to GCSE, it can be taught in one year with successful results and with some effort.
According to government recommendations, every student should have at least one Modern Foreign Language at GCSE. German is an excellent alternative to French and Spanish and would prove very popular with universities further along the road.
