The Year 12 Historians are studying Fascism in Italy and Germany and we were given a tour of ‘The Fascist Life’ exhibition at the Wiener Holocaust Library. This focused more on the appeal of Fascism than the leadership and there was a poignant section about how many women were attracted to the movement only to find they were relegated to the role of birthing of a new generation of Fascist youth. We were also given a tour of the archives kept in the temperature controlled basement and shown some of the ingenious ways the opposition found of smuggling anti-fascist literature in everyday articles such as tomato soup containers.
