Why Choose Collingham?

Why choose us?

Our tutors – many Oxbridge-educated and over 80% holding postgraduate qualifications – combine academic excellence with a deep understanding of exam requirements. Students leave our courses with personalised revision notes, a clear summer study plan, and significantly improved exam technique. All groups are tailored to exam boards or, where relevant, specific texts and topics.

Small Groups, Big Impact

The average class at Collingham consists of just five students. A level groups never exceed eight, and GCSE groups are capped at nine. These small, focused sets allow tutors to deliver highly personalised teaching, while giving students the space to ask questions, participate actively, and grow in confidence through discussion.

This format enables any difficulties to be identified and addressed swiftly. Tutors work closely with students to ensure steady progress, shared purpose, and high standards—creating a learning environment where ambition is matched by support.

Individual tuition is also available where beneficial, allowing for even greater flexibility and personalisation.

A Focus on Exam Success

Across all courses, we place strong emphasis on exam technique and structured preparation.

We know that success in exams comes from more than just knowledge—it requires sustained effort, strategic revision, and a disciplined approach to study. Our methods equip students with the skills they need to perform at their best.

Independent Learning, Expert Feedback

Homework is set during the courses to consolidate classroom learning and foster independent thought. This is marked constructively, with feedback discussed thoroughly to promote improvement. Reports are sent to parents following the courses and include individualised advice to support the student’s ongoing revision.

Care and Flexibility

Every Collingham student is assigned a personal tutor who oversees their academic and personal development. The tutor offers encouragement and guidance, while also providing clear direction when needed. They stay in close contact with subject tutors and parents, ensuring that each student receives consistent, responsive support.

We monitor attendance closely, and parents are informed of absences or repeated lateness. Reports from both subject and personal tutors are issued twice a term, and regular Parents’ Evenings provide opportunities for in-depth discussion. Parents are also welcome to arrange individual meetings at any time.

Our timetable is designed to reflect both structure and flexibility. A level students are trusted to manage their free periods responsibly, with guidance from their tutors. If a student struggles to meet deadlines or keep pace, study periods can be added to offer additional support.

Supporting Every Student

Some students benefit from additional support, and we provide this with care and discretion. Study Skills sessions are built into our curriculum at both GCSE and A level, and can be tailored for students who need extra help developing focus, organisation, or revision techniques.

We have a dedicated dyslexia specialist on staff, and our EFL tutors offer targeted support for international students preparing for university-level study in English. Where personal challenges arise, we can advise students on accessing counselling or other wellbeing support.

We wanted to drop you a line to thank you and your staff for the tremendous efforts you have all made on our son’s behalf. You were so supportive and encouraging from the outset. We have both been delighted with the effort and dedication made by his tutors. Collingham has definitely made a considerable difference to the life that our son can look forward to as he now embarks on his university studies pursuing his passion for History and Archaeology. We are of course incredibly grateful to everyone and believe his success is down to their professionalism and dedication as teachers and tutors. A Level Parent
Our son has really enjoyed his year with you all and it's been amazing to see his confidence come back! Something I thought I would never see again.  In particular he has loved physics and this is simply down to your effective teaching! Thank you for being such an amazing inspiration. GCSE Parent
I just wanted to thank you both for your support of our daughter since she joined the College.  She has made tremendous academic progress. GCSE Parent
We just wanted to thank you and the whole team at Collingham. Our son could not have achieved his results without you and we are very grateful to all of you. He is now off to the University of Bath and looking forward to it. May I say how delighted we were with the results our son gained at A Level which are a credit to you and your staff. The work that the teachers devoted to getting him across the line and into his first choice university is hugely appreciated. It goes without saying that we would commend Collingham without reservation to those considering a private tutorial college for their children. A2 Parents
We had great pleasure yesterday in dropping our daughter off at Sussex University which, as you know, was her first choice. We will miss her very much but hope that she will thrive as much there as she did with you all at Collingham. A Level Parents
