Study Skills

Building Strong Habits for Lifelong Learning

At Collingham Kensington, we believe that academic success is not just about subject knowledge—it’s also about how students learn. Our dedicated Study Skills programme helps students develop the tools, habits, and confidence they need to become effective, independent learners.

Whether they are just starting GCSEs, navigating A Levels, or preparing for university, our students benefit from structured guidance and individualised support designed to unlock their full academic potential.

Study Skills Workshops

We run regular workshops throughout the year, tailored to the age and stage of our students. These sessions focus on core learning strategies such as:

> Time management and organisation

> Note-taking and revision techniques

> Essay planning and writing

> Memory and concentration methods

> Managing exam stress and performance anxiety

Workshops are interactive, practical, and responsive to students’ current academic demands, helping them apply new skills in real-time.

One-to-One Support

For students who need more personalised assistance, we offer individual Study Skills sessions. These may be recommended by a personal tutor or requested directly by the student or their family.

1:1 sessions provide targeted coaching in areas such as:

> Building focus and motivation

> Structuring homework and revision

> Developing subject-specific strategies (e.g., essay writing in History or problem-solving in Maths)

> Addressing barriers such as dyslexia or processing difficulties

Our experienced tutors and learning support specialists work closely with students to set realistic goals and track progress.

The Role of the Personal Tutor

Every student at Collingham Kensington has a personal tutor who plays a central role in guiding academic development. Personal tutors:

> Monitor study habits and progress

> Offer weekly guidance and encouragement

> Identify when additional Study Skills support may be needed

> Liaise with subject tutors and parents to ensure joined-up support

This system ensures that Study Skills development is not a one-off event, but a consistent, embedded part of each student’s academic journey.

Expert Lectures & Learning Events

In addition to internal support, we regularly invite external experts to speak to our students and parents on a wide range of learning-related topics. These have included:

> Memory and learning science

> Resilience and mindset

> University-level study strategies

> Managing performance pressure

These events form part of our broader commitment to holistic education, equipping students (and families) with the knowledge and skills to navigate modern academic life confidently.

Preparing for the Future

Strong study skills aren’t just about getting through school—they’re essential for university and beyond. At Collingham Kensington, our goal is to help every student become a confident, self-directed learner capable of adapting to new challenges.

Whether through workshops, one-to-one sessions, personal tutor support or expert-led lectures, we ensure that our students are equipped with the skills they need to succeed.
