A new concept in gallery organisation, Cromwell Place is a multi-million pound project space over several floors in a converted town house in South Kensington, just off the Cromwell Road, a 5 minute walk from Collingham. It is an international arts space where galleries, collectors, dealers, curators and arts professionals can collaborate, and hosts a rotating schedule of exhibitions by high profile artists. At the time the Art students visited, several exhibitions were on display to coincide with Frieze week. Of note were shows of Karen Knorr’s recent work and a display of Sebastio Salgado collectors’ prints, amongst other fascinating shows. We aim for Cromwell Place to be site that our Art students can visit regularly, it being so close to the college, where they can be exposed to work of different kinds of process and media but, most importantly, work that may not be in their comfort zone. The most fruitful creative discovery can sometimes come from surprising places, and this often leads one’s work in new directions as result.
