Electus and History of Art students recently enjoyed a curation workshop at Collingham with art historian Carolyn Sargentson. Entitled Collecting Ourselves, the session began with each participant presenting one or two objects belonging to them and explaining their significance. The group then learned about the role of the curator and categorised their objects by theme – a task which involved much discussion as most of the objects crossed categories. Documenting the process in writing as they went along, the students distilled their ideas into four themes of love, family, spirituality and technology, and then created a display. All agreed that they had learned a great deal and had a very engaging evening.
