Phillip Ball presents to Collingham students

Phillip Ball, science writer and BBC broadcaster, gave a lecture at Collingham in December called ‘Bright Earth: The Invention Of Colour’. The interdisciplinary talk brought together the arts and sciences, covering the development of colour through the ages.

Student Eleanor says; “The lecture was SO good, it helped me with all my subjects and projects. In History of Art we talked about blue being a spiritual colour – it’s amazing that each culture finds its own colours and that each culture is so intertwined. I am now able to talk about the history of colour.”

"It brought to light things we have never considered - how materials were or weren't available. We have access to colour so easily nowadays and its only recently that we have had this freedom. The lecture really explained how colour guided artists and their techniques. It has really changed the way I see colour."
- Olek, A level student.
