On Thursday 1st October AS Art students were taken on a gallery visit to Light Eye Mind in North London.
The students spent the first ten minutes, in silence, taking in the show and jotting down their first impressions. The work was abstract and so it was great to have them thinking and interpreting on their own.
The students then chose their favourite artwork and completed a worksheet on ‘reading’ the works. The students were asked to formally analyse the works, considering scale, light, colour, form, medium and perspective.
The task reinforced the importance of being comfortable and confident with visual language.
After this the students had a Q&A with the artists, Sean Rennison Phillips. It was fantastic to see the students engage with the work, and the artist – and they all asked interesting and thoughtful questions.
"I really enoyed asking Sean about the materials he used, as all his paintings were so different and unique."
