On December 14th 2019, Electus students visited the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich to see The Moon Exhibition, which re-lives the momentous moments of the original space race and looks ahead to the future of space exploration in the 21st century. The multidisciplinary focus of the exhibition appealed to all the students in individual ways: it was fascinating to see artefacts that had been to the moon and back, astrolabes and telescopes, as well as texts and artworks reflecting the influence of the moon on the popular imagination over the centuries. Having previously attended a lecture on marine plastics at the Royal Institution, the group was quick to relate the final section of the exhibition, which examines the ethical, geopolitical and ecological implications of a return to the moon, to debates that are at the forefront of the minds of their generation.
