Our annual Great Collingham Bake Off took place on Wednesday 21st March. The event saw the study room dressed in bunting and doilies in true Bake Off style, and offered up many fantastic bakes.
We enjoyed some expert judging from our past Collingham Principal and enthusiastic baker Gilly Green, and our Director of Studies Kerim Aytac (one of the perks of the job!). Both judges sampled all the bakes on offer, ranging from Principal Sally Powell’s courgette and orange cake, that won the prize for ‘Most Original Bake’, Juliana Storey’s chocolate Easter egg cake, Alex’s strawberry meringue mousse and Roberto Portillo’s apple tart. Although all the bakes were delicious, Jara (below) took home first prize with her mouth-watering Madeleines.
Although we run several wonderful charity events through the year, this one might just be our special favourite (when else do we get to eat cake for charity?!). As well as an excellent opportunity to show off our baking skills and tuck into some delicious cakes, the bake off raises money for Macmillan cancer support. We were proud to raise £110 for this fantastic cause. A special thanks to everyone that baked and donated, as well as the student volunteers who helped to arrange the event.
